Method 1: Reset your Wi-Fi configuration

Sometimes, the Luxedo device may struggle to pick out the correct Wi-Fi signal. This is most relevant for cases where the Luxedo device was set up on multiple networks in the past, or if your home is set up with multiple networks of different frequencies.

Step 1: Open your device's Wi-Fi settings using its hotspot

    1. Turn on your Luxedo device (if it is not on already)
    2. Use a phone or computer to connect to your Luxedo's Wi-Fi hotspot using its password
    3. On that phone or computer, open your browser and go to connect.luxedo.com
    4. If you experience any issues with this step, follow this guide

Step 2: Delete all saved networks

    1. Click on "Manage Saved Networks"
    2. Go through any networks you have saved and click "Forget" until there are none left

Step 3: Connect to the best network

    1. Go back to connect.myluxedo.com
    2. Click on "Connect to Wi-Fi"
    3. Click on "Scan for Networks"
    4. Find your home network from the list, and connect to it
      • If you have multiple networks, and you know one of them is 5GHz, avoid using it. Ignore this if this does not apply to you.

Step 4: Get back to using your Luxedo as usual

  • These steps may help solve your Wi-Fi issues, but they may not. Try using it, and if the issues persist, continue to method 2.

Method 2: Wire your Luxedo Device directly to your home network

Note: This is the preferred method if your device is more than 30 ft. away from your home, or if your home uses a Mesh network!

If you are able to run a cable to your Luxedo device, that is the most certain way to make sure you never have network issues. The downside is that you have to have a physical cable running from your home to your device.

  1. Figure out the length of cable you need, taking into account:
    • The distance between your router and your device
    • How you want to wire it to hide the cable/get it out of the way
    • How you plan to wire the cable to reach the outdoors
  2. Get the cable in the correct length
  3. Connect your Luxedo device to the internet
    1. Plug one end of the ethernet cord into one of the ports on your router
    2. Run the wire to your Luxedo device and plug it in
      1. For Luxedo Projection System V3 devices, the ethernet port is hidden inside the case, indicated by this image:
  4. Power on your Luxedo projector - it will automatically connect to your network, without you needing to do anything else

Method 3: Extend your Network Range

The most common reason for Wi-Fi problems is distance from the wireless router. There are several different ways you can deal with this by increasing the range of your Wi-Fi signal.

To test if this method applies to you: use your phone or tablet to test the strength of your Wi-Fi at your Luxedo device. To do this, follow this guide while holding your phone right behind your Luxedo unit, by the antenna. If you have anything other than a strong signal, you may need to use one of the options below.

Option 1: Move your Router closer to your Luxedo device

If there are many walls between your home internet's router or gateway, this can have a serious effect on your Wi-Fi stability.

This is a simple option, but only works if:

  • Your router is not against the wall of your home closest to your Luxedo device
  • You are able to move your internet router to a spot closer to the Luxedo device

If that is an option, however, moving your router closer in this way may yield the results you need.

Option 2: Upgrade your Router/Gateway

Every situation is different, so we can't give specific instructions on what to get - however, here are some pointers for various setups.

Note that if you are familiar with internet hardware and are confident that you got a good router, this option is probably not right, and we recommend looking into the other options.

    1. Determine if your home network uses a "Gateway" or a "Router and Modem"
      • If you rent any physical hardware from your internet provider, this will almost always be a gateway
      • If you are unsure, refer to this link for more information on the difference
    2. If you are using a gateway rented from an internet provider:
      • We highly recommend cancelling your rental and upgrading to a modem and router
      • Why: The gateways they provide are usually terrible and overpriced, with bad range and low speeds, and a recurring cost to boot. The new hardware may cost more up front, but will give far better results for many years, with no recurring cost.
    3. If you are using your own gateway
      • We recommend upgrading to a modem and router, unless you know that your gateway has sufficient range and speed
      • Why: Modems and routers serve a different purpose, and have been improved upon separately since the birth of wireless internet. By trying to combine them into one, gateways often cut corners or sacrifice performance, in exchange for being slightly easier to set up.
    4. If you already have a Modem and Router:
      • You may not need to upgrade your hardware, or you may need to upgrade only one part of it.
      • You can use an internet speed tester, such as speedtest.net, to test your hardware and its limitations
        1. Do a speed test right next to your router - If the speeds are significantly slower than what you pay for, it is likely that either your modem or your router is not rated for your current plan. If your download speeds are less than 25Mb/s, you may need to upgrade your
        2. Hold your phone next to your Luxedo device, right near the antenna. Make sure you are connected to your home network, and do a speed test - If your test fails, has a much lower download speed than the first test, or has a speed below 5Mb/s, you may need to upgrade your router.
    5. Choosing a Modem
      • Modems can be bought in many places online, or in brick and mortar stores such as Best Buy
      • Modems are simple - all you need is for it to be able to handle high enough internet speeds
        • The number you need will depend on the internet package you pay for with your provider. Common speeds are between 50Mb/s up to 1000 Mb/s (a.k.a. Gigabit)
        • Maximum network speed, AKA bandwidth, will be listed on the packaging / store page of any modem
      • If you already have a modem and router, your modem may not need to be upgraded - the router is more likely to be the culprit
      • If you pay for fiber internet, it is very important to make sure your modem is compatible with your internet provider and fiber!
      • For anything less than Gigabit speeds, this should not cost more than $100
      • Warning: on shopping sites such as Amazon, search results for "Modem" may also include "Modem + Router Combos", another name for gateways. Keep an eye out for these!
    6. Choosing a Router
      • Routers can be bought in many places online, or in brick and mortar stores such as Best Buy
      • Routers can seem complicated but are quite simple: More speed and more range = nicer router
      • Most of the things advertised on router boxes are pointless, all we care about is speed and range
      • You can search for "Long range internet router" on shopping sites to get results specialized for this use case
      • You should be able to find something totally fine in the $50-$200 price range. Anything more is probably overkill unless you have a very extreme use case.
    7. Set up your new network
      • Once you have your new gear, follow the steps needed to set it up. If you replaced your modem, you will need your internet provider to activate it. If you replaced your router, you will have to reconnect any devices you have to your new network - including the Luxedo!

Option 3: Use a range extender

If you already have a decent modem/router, the issues may be due to where your router is, and having many walls between your router and your Luxedo device. A range extender may be a good option to deal with this without needing to upgrade your home network or run a cable all the way outside.

    1. Pick the right extender
      • Wi-Fi range extenders with antennas tend to indicate better range
      • If the range extender shows its coverage area, we recommend not going below 5000 Sq. Ft, with 10,000 or more being preferred.
    2. Set up the range extender in the best location
      • Ideally, a range extender will be halfway between your router and your device
      • If possible, putting your range extender on the outside wall of your home can yield better results than keeping it inside
      • Only use one range extender if possible! Having multiple range extenders may cause the network connection to fluctuate, especially if the extenders are at a similar range away from the Luxedo device.
    3. Connect your extender to your internet
      • Follow the instructions for your range extender to set it up
      • Advanced: If your extender offers an "Access Point" mode, which connects it to your network with a wire, this will give the strongest signal, but may be more complicated.
    4. Power on the Luxedo and use it as if nothing changed
      • The device will automatically adapt to the new range extender - no extra steps needed!
